Willie VonRuden is a 6′, 170 lb. Quarterback for the Medford Tigers. VonRuden helped the Tigers have one of their best seasons in six seasons, finishing at 5-6 falling to Blue Earth Area in the Section 2AA Championship. Primarily a running QB, VonRuden was a vital piece in the Medford rushing attack along side versatile RB Jerone Chavis. Willie VonRuden could also throw a good ball and squeeze it into some tight windows. I was able to catch up with Willie and talk about his successful Senior season. Check it out below:
VonRuden- Skye DevoeNFN: Hello Willie, tell us a little about yourself and how you started playing football.
VonRuden: My name is Willie VonRuden, I’m from Medford, Minnesota. I am a Senior at Medford Public Schools and I’ve been playing football my whole life!
NFN: What do you love about the game of football?
VonRuden: My favorite part of football is going to war with my brothers every week! They have my back and I have their’s!
NFN: How did your 2019 Season go as a team?
VonRuden: Overall, we had a good season, making it all the way to the Section Title game before losing. We felt like we brought Medford football back together!
NFN: What were you expectations for the season?
VonRuden: Our goal for the season was to make State, we came close, just fell one game short! It was a very exciting season! After losing in the first round off Sections last year, we put in the work in the offseason, determined to make this season, the best season.
NFN: What is it like playing for Medford?
VonRuden: I’m honored to have played for the Medford Tigers! The support we get from our coaches, fans, community and teammates is amazing!
NFN: How has your recruiting going? What are you looking for in a college program?
VonRuden: Recruiting is going well! I’ve been contacted by a few D3 schools. I’m looking to find a school with a competitive, hungry-to-win culture. I’m hoping to play on the offensive side of the ball, whether that is WR, in the slot, RB, anywhere best fit for me!
