Parker Theobald is a 6’2″, 240 lb. OL/DL from Stewartville who just wrapped up a stellar Junior Season. He helped the Tigers get to an 8-1 season, falling just short of a trip to the State Tournament. Theobald was the primary pull-blocker, racking up 52 pancake blocks, which led to a 2,000 yard rusher in Josh Buri. Defensively, he was second on the team in total tackles at 45. He also had 14 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. Theobald uses his speed as his primary strength, leading up the hole on pull blocks and keeps driving through the defender after contact. On defense, he uses a quick first step to engage his blocker first and gets around him with both his speed and power to get into the backfield. I was able to catch up with Parker to ask him about his season and his future in football, check it out below:
Theobald- Scott GulbransonNFN: Hello Parker, tell us a little about yourself and how you began playing football.
Theobald: I’m Parker Theobald, I play OL/DL for the Stewartville Tigers. I began playing football back in 3rd grade.
NFN: What do you love about the game of football? How was your 2019 season both personally and as a team?
Theobald: I love the game of football because of the camaraderie that you build with your teammates. You need 11 guys doing their job on every play in order to be successful, instills a lot of trust. As a team we had an undefeated regular season and we were one game short of the State Tournament. Personally, I felt I had good season. I needed a game to adjust to a new position, but once I settled in, I embraced playing the nose guard. I took pride in my new role in the run-stop game.
NFN: What were your expectations for yourself and your team this season?
Theobald: Our expectations were very high entering the season. For me, I was the only returning lineman on both sides of the ball, I was stepping into a leadership role as well. We put in a lot of work over the off-season and we knew we could achieve great things this season.
NFN: What’s it like playing for Stewartville?
Theobald: Playing in Stewartville, our coaches put a lot of emphasis on the culture we’re trying to build. Everyone bought into that this year, which is a big reason why we were successful this year.
NFN: How has your recruiting been going? What are you looking for in a college program?
Theobald: Recruiting has picked up in the past few months. I went on game day visits to SDSU, UND, and NDSU. SDSU has recently invited me to a Junior day invite. I’m looking for a program that has a team first type atmosphere like Stewartville. Also a school that has my field of study will be huge too.
NFN: What are your expectations for you and your team in your Senior Season?
Theobald: I have high expectations again next season. Most of our returners have been talking about next season since this season ended. We’re ready to get back to work. For the other Seniors and I, it’s our last chance to bring home a championship, we will do whatever it takes to do that for Stewartville. I may be moving to Defensive End next season, so I hope I can contribute there.
