Continue ReadingMinneapolis North has been one of the most dominant programs of the decade under Coach Charles Adams. The 6x section champ, 2016 State Champ, and the first black championship coach in Minnesota history helped to bring North back from a school that had as low as 89(!) total students at one point to a perennial A/AA contender as well as the undisputed best public school team in the Twin Cities. The Polars are consistently more athletic, more talented, and better coached than their opponents, and this success has translated to the next level as Coach Adams (@spankoa) recently tweeted a picture of the dozens of former North HS players that signed with college programs.
Credit @spankoaIt’s an impressive list and should solidify North as a recruiting hotbed for all levels of college coaches. Another big up-and-coming stud for the Polars is 2021 graduate athlete Dave Wylie. The 6’1, 185 lber. is a 2x All-District selection who recorded 51 tackles, 3.0 TFL’s, 1 sack, and 3 FF’s in 2019 and also was a weapon on the offensive side of the ball tallying 231yards and 2 TDs as a WR. He had an atypical path to North as a Brooklyn Center transfer, and was kind enough to give NFN some of his time to discuss North’s 2019 season, his prep career thus far, and any recruiting news! NFN: Hello and thank you for your time, Dave. Tell us a little bit about yourself, your path to North Community High School and your 2019 season with them, and some teams you’re interested in recruiting-wise and who’ve you been in contact with.
Wylie: “My name is Dave Wylie I am a Junior at North Minneapolis High I transferred from Brooklyn Center High I started playing football in the 5th grade i am 6’1 185 . In my freshman season I got All-District Honorable Mention with 36 tackles (16 solo), 4 TFL, 2 sacks, 3 FR, 1 INT, and 1 Sfty. 2018 All-District in 7 games my 10th grade year I had 54 tackles (40 solo), 8 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 FR (2TD). I also added 13 receptions for 104 yards. My Junior year regular season in 2019 I had Tck:23 ATck:25 TTck:51TFL:3Sck:1.0 FF:3 in five games starting at WR I added 9Rec234 yards and 2tds YPG 49 I feel like my junior year has been my hardest year with learning new plays and learning the new system but I feel like this year have made me a better player and teammate. And I’ve also learned how to adapt to new systems. I feel like North is a great program that does not only help you on the field but also in the classroom. My first eight games this year were not my best games as I was adapting to the program but I am going to work hard this off-season for a way better season. I am interested in playing D1 for college I have not really been contacted by any school yet also have not been on any visits I am interested in playing for SDSU.”
