Getting ahead on the recruiting trail of a future potential highly rated recruit and helping to disperse their film and get their name out there as a underclassmen is a very cooling feeling as a writer in my position. I also can’t help but think a good one has been found with this newest recruit for this report: Burnsville Blaze 2022 grad Jay Homuth. The 6’5, 185 lb. sophomore reached out to me on twitter hoping to get some recruiting coverage, and I was more than happy to oblige. Homuth has the measurable and attitude of a future scholarship athlete, and I’m very fortunate to be one of the first writers he reached out to. At a powerful 6A school such as Burnsville, Homuth will have a chance next season to play with and against the best competition the Metro has to offer, and if he works hard there will be no doubt you will be hearing more about Homuth in the future. Check out this first-look, exclusive interview with the 2022 grad as we discuss his football career thus farm playing at Burnsville, and some of his hopes for recruiting. Hope you enjoy!
Homuth with a snag vs. Lakeville SouthNFN: Hello, Jay. Tell our readers a little bit about yourself, where you’re from, and when you began playing football.
Homuth: “I was born in Minneapolis in March 2004, and I lived with my mom in Big Lake, Minnesota for most of my childhood. I did end up having a one year stint in Princeton, MN and then moved in with my Dad in Burnsville. I started playing tackle football in 2nd grade and I didn’t play much my first year but I kept “working” and going to practice and eventually got a lot of playing time at RB. I love football because I get to spend the whole summer with my brothers. We workout together, play together, and pretty much do everything together. We’re on big family at Burnsville. When I originally moved to Burnsville I was a 3rd string TE and I got re-recognized as a WR my freshman year of high school. I only played some special teams this year on varsity, and my sophomore stats for WR were 20 receptions for 510 receiving yards and 3 TD’s. I also played FS and had 14 tackles, 2 pass deflections, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble. And my height is 6’5, 182 lbs., I run a 4.77 40, squat 285, clean 180, and have a 31 inch vert.”
NFN: What was your season this year at Burnsville for both you and the squad?
Homuth: “Well this season we went 2-6 (varsity 1-9) and we had a down year this year but need to suffer to achieve greatness. One bad year won’t hurt and we have to put this season behind us to focus on 2020. I think we all learned the weight room wins games and we need to play for 4 full quarters because when we do good things happen. Personally my season exceeded expectations. I more than doubled my goal for receiving yards as well as scored a bit, including our game winning touchdown in the last game. I’m going to work even harder this offseason and I can’t wait for next year already. Our expectations for this year were very very high and we thought we spent enough time in the weight room and on the field but we need to work harder and faster and a lot more. We have practice almost all summer, a conditioning coach, 7v7’s against Bloomington Kennedy, and we workout everyday. We just need that little bit more that every team has. I love playing at Burnsville and I like how I can depend on my teammates on and off the field. I also like getting coached by former D1 and D2 athletes and coaches. It’s a very nice program and we are working on recruiting more kids to play.”
NFN: Although it’s early, who are some teams you are interested in playing for? Have you attended any camps? What are you looking for in a college team?
Homuth: “The schools I am interested in are Minnesota, Iowa State, NDSU, Minnesota State-Mankato, Arizona State, St. Johns, Bemidji State, Concordia, Northwestern St. Paul, and Davenport, Michigan. I have been contacted by Davenport, MSU, and Northwestern so far right now. I have been to the Northwestern camp last summer and I hope to attend a school with the right education for me which is sports marketing or journalism.”
All aboard the Homuth train ladies and gentleman! Don’t be surprised when you see his name pop up in the future.
