The junior absolutely balled out and was all over the field in BSM’s nail biter of a section final loss to the #1 ranked team in 4A SMB. He trucked a kid in one of the biggest hits I’ve seen this year on a blocked punt return, caught a TD from his HB position, and was in the backfield of SMB all night from his LB position. The 2021 grad is also BSM’s wrestling and ultimate frisbee captain, and the three-sport athlete would make an explosive and impactful addition to a college football program, but has yet to really been contacted by any colleges. Wolfe needs his name put out there so coaches can come watch the stud in person, and I’m hoping this exclusive interview that the junior did with Northstar Football News is enough to raise some awareness of Wolfe. In what was an interesting and easy conversation, I got to know Wolfe, his football background, career at BSM, and his interest in playing at the next level.
Wolfe.NFN: Hello and nice to meet you, George. Share with our readers a little bit about yourself, how you began to play football, and what you love about the sport.
Wolfe: “I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota and I play football at Benilde St. Margaret’s. I’ve been playing football since 5th grade and I also am the captain of the BSM wrestling team as well as the ultimate team. I love football because of the bond and brotherhood that comes with it. It’s 11 guys working as a machine to get one shared goal. Football encourages a whole new level of work ethic that very few understand unless you’ve played the sport. I am 5’10 and 180 pounds, my 40 time is a 4.8. My max squat is 405, my deadlift is 315, and I played wing back last year and had 150 yards off of 12 receptions with a TD. I also had 17 special teams tackles.”
NFN: What was BSM’s season like last year in 2018? How was your season personally and what did you learn from it?
Wolfe: “I started my season last year only playing special teams and was the third string QB and honestly didn’t expect too much more than that throughout the season. But by the third game I was starting at wing back. I mostly was utilized for short passes to pick up first downs and to block. I ended the season as a honorable mention all-conference selection. As a team we ended the season on a very good note making a very good playoff run. Eventually we were stopped short by two point loss to SMB in the section finals. Last year was a wake-up call because we didn’t expect to do much and kind of assumed we’d just through the motions and not be great. Last season taught us what hard work and determination can do and we carried that attitude into this season with us. We worked all winter, spring, and summer to get each other into the best possible shape for what was set up to be a promising season. We worked on building a unified bond off the field with everyone on the team which was something that was extremely missing from the 2018 season. The BSM football program is incredible, we have great coaches and a lot of guys that are dedicated to the team.”
Wolfe dives in for the sack against Cooper.NFN: In your own words, describe this 2019 season, including that tough section final loss vs. SMB.
Wolfe: “The regular season was great. We went 8-0 and were conference champs. The best game of the regular season was where we won on a walk off touchdown by William Petty in overtime. This season of football will forever be burned in my memory. The bond between our team is unmatchable and we all played as one unit all season. The final game was really tough. We fell down 14-0 early in the first quarter and had to fight back to get the game close. We went into halftime with the momentum and up 7, and right out of the half Joe Marinaro had an absolutely incredible run for 60-something yards to set me up for an easy TD. From there things got worse, Suggs’ athleticism began to show and he started to get comfortable, allowing him to avoid us and give SMB more time to make plays. He stepped up along with Terry Lockett in the final quarter of the game and we were unable to match that.”
NFN: Any recruiting news? What level are you interested in playing at and what are you looking for in a team?
Wolfe: “I am yet to be contacted by any schools, nor do I do any of the camps but I’m definitely going to do some this summer. I’m interested in playing at any level possible as long as I can play good, competitive football as well as get a quality education.”
