Chad Maddock is a 6’4″, 280 lbs. offensive and defensive lineman for the Redwood Valley Cardinals. Traditionally a good team in many assets, however Maddock, as a junior, helped the Cardinal team do something that had not been done since 2004, make the State tournament in 2018. Maddock helped the team to a 7-3 record for his senior season, capturing the #1 seed in the Section 3AA tournament. He is also a member of the wrestling and baseball teams for Redwood as well. The games I watched him play in, he was one of the primary blockers that the offense runs behind because he usually makes big seams for his backs. On defense he is usually the first one in the backfield driving through his blocker, creating good opportunities for him and his teammates. I was able to interview him on what comes next for him after high school football. Check it out below!
Maddock & Haase – Redwood Falls GazetteNFN: Hey Chad, tell us about yourself and when you began playing football.
Maddock: I’m a farm kid from Redwood Falls. I play football, wrestle, and play baseball. I started playing football in 5th grade.
NFN: What is your favorite thing about football?
Maddock: My favorite thing is the physicality required to succeed, also the complexity of the game intrigues me.
NFN: What were your expectations for the 2019 season both as a team and personally? How’d your season end up?
Maddock: We had a pretty good season at 7-3, one coming in the postseason. I feel my season went better than I expected, I tool a step both physically and mentally to play better this season than other seasons. My expectations for myself was to do everything I could to help win a championship. As a team our goal is always to win a State title, and this year I thought we really stepped up fundamentally.
NFN: What is it like to play for Redwood Valley?
Maddock: It is an absolute honor to play for Redwood Valley. The expectations playing here are always kept to a high standard both on and off the field.
NFN: How is your recruiting process going? What kind of school are you looking for?
Maddock: I’m interested in a school with agricultural or industrial technology degrees. I’ve been in contact with SMSU, St. Cloud State, Duluth, Bemidji, Dordt, Wayne State, and River Falls.
NFN: Lastly, how was it being on the team that made State for the first time since 2004?
Maddock: It was the most exciting thing ever to make State! Even though we lost the first round I would not trade the experience for anything. It was great to feel the pride in our community for our football team!
