Caden Baarts is a 6’3″, 180 lb., RB/DB who is a Senior at Fairmont High School. He helped the squad to a State Runner-up campaign as a junior and a 8-2 finish in his senior season, making it to the Section 3AAA Championship. Baarts is also a member of the Fairmont Cardinals Basketball and Track teams as well. He competed in the Class A State meet in the 4×200 meter relay, placing 5th in prelims and 6th in finals. Caden stepped into a larger role as a senior, moving from wide receiver to running back, while also being one of the top cornerbacks for the Cardinals. After watching one of his games this season at Luverne, he seemed to have a quieter game statistically, but still played a great game. He has explosive speed, great vision, agility, and does not shy away from contact. Defensively, he is primarily covering the opponents top receiver, he spends the whole time in the receivers hip pocket so it is hard for them to make many plays. I was able to interview Caden about his senior season and his recruiting process recently. Check it out below!
Baarts- Greg AbleNFN: Hello, Caden. Tell us a little bit about yourself and when you began playing football.
Baarts: My name is Caden Baarts. I’m a senior at Fairmont High School. I have been playing football since 5th grade.
NFN: What do you love about the game?
Baarts:I love the team aspect of football and that it’s not just about one person.
NFN: What were your expectations as a team for the 2019 season?
Baarts: Our expectation was to get back to State, it didn’t end the way we wanted it to, but we made it farther than anyone else expected us to.
NFN: Did you guys feel any pressure returning from off a State Runner-up appearance?
Baarts: The standards after making the State Championship game are high, but I feel we answered them with all the work we put in all offseason.
NFN: How’s the recruiting process going for you?
Baarts: I have visited Bemidji State, also talking with several other D2 and D3 schools.
NFN: What’s one thing you will miss about high school football?
Baarts: I will miss the connections with my teammates most
