Luis Fuentes, Class of 2020 (Senior)
Position: Defensive Tackle
High School Program: St. Paul Johnson
Get to Know Luis Fuentes
If you are looking for a player with a big motor, Fuentes is your guy. Every game this season, Fuentes averaged about 110 snaps for Johnson on the defensive and offensive side of the ball. Anyone outside of St. Paul Johnson Football should know that Fuentes is “never off the field” he told Northstar Football News. He is a true three-technique defensive tackle that can get to the quarterback with ease. His biggest strengths on the field are his technique as in how to use your hands, use of your footwork, where to strike the player on the hit and using his power and speed to make the big hit.
Best Parts About Defensive Tackle
Fuentes said getting to the quarterback on a sack is his number one favorite thing about defensive tackle along with stuffing running backs in the backfield as well.
College Interest
Fuentes has light D-2 interest from Minnesota-Crookston and the University of Mary (ND) but is open to any football at “any level” he told Northstar Football News. If you are a D-2, D-3 or JUCO program looking for a high motor work ethic at defensive tackle, Fuentes could be your guy out of St. Paul Johnson.
Improvement from the Off-Season by Fuentes
The biggest thing the St. Paul Johnson Governors coaching staff told Fuentes in past seasons is if he “wanted something, he’d have to work at it as nothing is handed to you” Fuentes told NFN. This lifted Fuentes’s attitude towards football, as he has been in the weight the last two years 3-4 days per week at 5:30 in the morning getting bigger and faster. This work ethic led Fuentes to be the Governor’s team captain this season.
Luis’s Mentor
Luis gave a shoutout to his Governor’s defensive line coach Richard Megembe as he “got me to where I am today.” Fuentes said about his mentor on the football field.
Biggest Things Luis Learned About This Season
Luis told Northstar Football News that the biggest thing he learned about himself this season was to “go 100% every time on every rep”, which is a quote that every player in high school football can live by.
Thanks to Luis Fuentes of St. Paul Johnson!
