Continue ReadingThe town of Annandale is located about an hour west of the Twin Cities and is home to a class of 2021 beast who goes by the name of Logan Purcell. The 6’6, 230 lb. OT/DE is a two way hammer for the 5-0 East Central-South first place Annandale squad and should be garnering a lot of more college football recruitment than he’s currently getting. Before the process begins to heat up for him I was lucky enough to score an exclusive interview with Purcell for Northstar Football News in which the junior caught me up on his team, the 2019 season, and his college recruitment.
NFN: Tell us a little bit about yourself and when you started playing football.
Purcell: “I am from Annandale, Minnesota. I started playing football in 3rd grade and made varsity in 10th. I come from a big family of 5 kids, I like pianos, and I like deer hunting. I like the atmosphere when playing football and I like to hit people. I’m 6’6, 230 and bench 225, squat 350, and clean 205. Last year I had 46 tackles and 4 sacks.”
NFN: What do you like about football and how was Annandale’s season in 2018? How was your season personally?
Purcell: “I really love my teammates and coaches. My teammates are very supportive for the most part and my coaches do a great job. Last season our football team accomplished our goal that we made at the beginning of the summer of making it to state and then got knocked out in the first round by Pierz. A highlight would be making it to state and a lowlight would be in the DC game where we made a few crucial mistakes late in the game. We learned that we couldn’t take plays off ever. Personally it was an eye opening season for me to gauge where my football skill was at. I loved playing last year and it made me love football.”
NFN: How about your guys’ expectations for 2019? What can we expect from Annandale and how has the first half of the season gone?
Purcell: “This year we are looking to improve from last year and go undefeated and make it to the state championship game. We put in a lot of work in the weight room this offseason making sure that everyone was there everyday. In our program I once again really love our coaching staff and they are always doing what’s best for the team and players. The small town community of Annandale is also amazing and we bring out a phenomenal fan base. During our first five games we beat Princeton, Litchfield, Holy Family, Little Falls, and New London Spicer.”
NFN: Any news on your recruitment process?
Purcell: “I haven’t thought a lot about college at this point. But I am starting to get contacted by a few schools such as UND and Minnesota for gameday visits.”
I would be foaming at the mouth to get the opportunity to contact Purcell at this point in his recruitment, and I’m looking forward to seeing where his football journey takes him.
