Get to Know Carson Toomer
If you are looking for a kid with a blue-collar work ethic, you need to take a look at Fairmont Cardinals Guard/Nose Guard Carson Toomer. Toomer is the definition of a grinder, a player that will always give you 100% on any given play and any given down. He said his biggest strength is “I will play whatever position my coach wants” which is a great trait to have and shows how hard of a worker Toomer is.
Best Part About the Offensive Line
Toomer loves playing offensive line because “it’s a grind every day” Toomer told NFN. He also made a great point about the offensive line. I think fans sometimes forget who sets up those running backs for those great runs they have. Toomer said “linemen rarely get any credit and playing the line shows how much you care about the team,” Toomer told NFN about his offensive linemen position.
College Interest
Toomer has some D-3 interest from three programs across Minnesota and Iowa. Augsburg, Gustavus, and Buena Vista (Iowa) have shown the most interest in Toomer thus far.
Improvements from the Off-Season by Toomer
“Strength and speed” are the two biggest things Toomer said his Fairmont Cardinals coaches told him to work on this off-season. After hearing this, Toomer put the gas pedal to the floor and this summer was lifting 2-3 times per day and would run and have a field workout as well everyday. Toomer stated “I dedicated my entire summer to what my coaches wanted me to improve on,” said Toomer, which has paid dividends for the Cardinals as they are 5-1 on the season.
Carson’s Mentors
Every player has different mentors. Some are pro athletes, some are alumni in their football program, or in Toomer’s case, it is his father that is his football mentor. “He’s taught me everything I know about the game,” Toomer said when talking about his father and how big of an impact he’s been on Carson in his football career with the Cardinals.
Goals for the Rest of the Season for Toomer and the Cardinals
I would expect with the team goal question, to get the same answer every time. “Get back to the state championship, and win it,” Toomer said is his team goal to close out the year. As far as individually, Toomer wants to make this a season to remember and to “show all the doubters they were wrong, as they are the fuel to my fire!” Toomer told Northstar Football News in his final quote when talking about his individual goals to close out the season.
Fairmont (5-1) is currently ranked 9th in the 3A football poll via Minnesota Football Hub. They will play at home this week against struggling 0-6 Norwood-Young America, who is averaging just under 7 points per game in their last 3 contests. Thanks again to Carson Toomer for the time!
