The rushing attack from Simley got going with RB Hope Adebayo with a 3-yard rush to put the Spartans up 7-0 over the Polars early in the 1st quarter. After a Polars turnover, QB Shane Prifrel found Adebayo for a 25-yard pass for a touchdown to add to the lead for the Spartans. Another running back got in the end zone for the Spartans, and that was Jamonte Franklin which would end the first quarter at Simley with a 21-0 lead for Simley.
As if the Spartans couldn’t add another back, to start the 2nd quarter RB Landon DuVal punched in a 1-yard run for a touchdown after some impressive runs. After 5 minutes of some back and forth, Simley got the ball and QB Shane Prifrel connected with what I thought was the best catch of the night, to WR Nolan Wanzek who made a nice grab in the end zone which put the Spartans up 35-0 with 6 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. That would be the score into halftime.
Polars QB Ben Teigland struggled finding his receivers in the first half but got into a slight grove in the 2nd half. His best targets were WR Brendan Lankford-Johnson, TE Jacob Lindberg and WR Casanova Edwards. The second half saw a big 43 yard run by backup Spartans QB Justin Warrick who ran it down to the Polars 2 yard line but unfortunately fumbled to get a Polars turnover. The 3rd quarter was defensive battle, as neither team scored at all until the 4th quarter.
The 4th quarter started with a spark from the Spartans, when QB Justin Warrick found WR Crist Pugh for a 7 yard touchdown. Polars QB Ben Teigland struggled finding his receivers in the first half, but got into a slight grove in the 2nd half. His best targets were WR Brendan Lankford-Johnson, TE Jacob Lindberg and WR Casanova Edwards. Edwards was able to get 2 big catches for over 60 yards all on one drive for the Polars late in the 4th quarter. The Polars would go for it on 4th down on that drive and were not able to convert. Final score from Inver Grove Heights, Simley: 42, North St. Paul: 0.
Simley (3-0) will stay at home next week to take on Hill-Murray. North St. Paul will go home and play a non-conference game against Minneapolis DeLaSalle.
