The 6’2, 180 lb. athlete comes from a family that grew up playing football and basketball, and has an uncle that played college football that has been teaching Spivey on the game since he starting playing football when he was nine. His family moved to Minnesota in search of a better education, and the move paid off as Spivey threw for 895 yards and 11 touchdowns in four games for Brooklyn Center as a sophomore last year before an injury unfortunately ended his season early. Fully healed from that injury, Spivey is more than ready for the 2019 season. After a long decision process, the quarterback decided to transfer from Brooklyn Center to Minneapolis North, and is about to get cleared and should suit up for the Polars this coming Friday. As Spivey told me himself in an exclusive interview with Northstar Football News this week: “the reason I chose North is because I feel like they can get me ready and prepared for the next level. Not saying Brooklyn Center couldn’t, but I would have a better advantage at North.” I found Spivey to be incredibly humble and thoughtful, as he told me he truly loved his time at Brooklyn Center. He stated to me that “I mean no disrespect to Brooklyn Center…I still got love for them and wish them the best. I still got a good bond with all the players we’re all still like brothers.” He also used his time at Brooklyn Center to improve himself as both a player and a person. He noted to me that some of his strengths are that he “can be a leader, I’m coachable, and I like to get everybody involved in the game in some type of way.” Spivey also said that he has been working on being more mobile as a QB and also reading defenses, especially linebackers and defensive backs. With his stats from last year in only four games combined with his work ethic and character, I believe Spivey could be a great addition to a college football squad.

He told me that South Dakota State and Youngstown State have been in contact quite a lot, but he is still waiting for that first offer to get the ball rolling. Another thing I found incredibly humbling about Spivey was how he isn’t against playing at any division. He said whether its D1, D2, or D3, he just wants a shot and just wants to join a college football program where he can “call the players and coaches family and have a good connection with…I am looking forward to having a great program because if you put yourself around the right people you can be successful in life.” He also added that “the school doesn’t make the player, the player makes the player. If you’re talented you will get recognized.” This attitude is very refreshing, and I hope it is as easy for y’all to see that Spivey has what it takes to be both successful on the gridiron and in life. After his junior season this year he is planning on hitting the camp circuit in the offseason, and I will not be surprised when I see him tweet that he picked up his first offer soon. Keep an eye out for Isaiah Spivey in 2019 and beyond!
