Continue ReadingAlexandria had one of Minnesota’s most prolific offenses last season, and whether he was catching passes or taking handoffs, running back Cody Faber was right in the middle of it.
Faber led the Cardinals in receptions with 55 and finished second on the team with 676 yards and seven touchdowns. He eclipsed the century mark in receiving twice, including a career high 147 yards in the season finale against St. Cloud Tech.
The 180-pounder also rushed for almost 400 yards on the year, receiving 61 total carries out of the backfield. He was named All-North Central District and All-Section 8AAAAA honorable mention after the season, which are honors he said he wants to duplicate in 2017, along with possibly breaking a school record.
“I want to break the receptions record at my high school,” said Faber via email. “I’ve been working on my route running and my speed by doing drills that help with that.”
Faber is one of the Cardinals’ five captains for the upcoming season. He said getting back to the state tournament is the team’s goal, which is going to be a challenge without three-year starting quarterback Jaran Roste, who is now at the University of Minnesota as a preferred walk-on.
Faber also competes in basketball and track for the Cardinals. He said during the limited downtime he has he enjoys being on the lake or relaxing and watching Netflix. He said he’s trying to maximize his football time during the summer to try and help the team return to state.
NFN's 94th-ranked prospect in the Class of 2018 has already attended team camp at North Dakota State, where the Cardinals won their third-straight 7-on-7 title. He said he’s planning to attend individual camps at St. Cloud State, Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State too, with the hopes of earning his first scholarship offer after showcasing his skills.
“Colleges see me as a very versatile player that can play several positions on both sides of the ball,” said Faber, who’s visited around a half-dozen Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schools.
Faber said he will value strong relationships with coaches, teachers, and teammates during the recruiting process, and after he gets to college. How he fits in both the classroom and on the field will be an important factor in his decision.
“I want to be involved with something related to sports,” said Faber about his career aspirations. “Possible a higher-level coach, sports management or an athletic director.”
