Zion Smith
About Zion
Expert Analysis
Todd Haldis | Prep Redzone Scout
Zion is a player I have seen a good bit of over the last year and have been impressed with him from the start. He has great size for an OG and is a nice combination of power and athleticism. Zion has a good strong lower half. He is a natural knee bender and can drop his hips and sink giving him good power through his hips. Zion also plays with nice quick feet, he can get them up and down quickly and flip his hips and go. This shows when he pulls; rapidly getting out of his stance and getting flat down the line with speed and power. A mauler in the run game, Zion also shows positive abilities in pass pro. Able to set with a strong base and use is athletic feet to re-set and move laterally keeping pass rushers from getting by him. Zion recently just picked up his first Power 4 offer from Syracuse, but more will come his way as he is poised to have a dominate junior year for DeMatha.

In less than 24 hours Smith landed his first and second D1 offers from Temple and Syracuse. This prospect has great size and now has film to compliment the measurables and it’s going down the road you’d imagine. He’s driving guys 5+ yards off the ball and had a couple pancakes. What caught my eye was his relentlessness during pass pro on film. He had a play where he blocked his original defender twice and gave a chip to another as the QB rolled out of the pocket. Size is no question for Smith he’ll have the big D1 size, lookout for him to develop very well at a program like DeMatha.

Smith has great size already at 6’4 310lbs, he used his size to show glimpses of dominance on DeMatha’s JV. Against Gonzaga he put a few pancakes on film and demonstrated his ability to overpower defenders off the ball.

Smith is another prospect with great size already at 6’4 300+ pounds. He has good feet, able to stay square and keep pass rushers outside the pocket. In his film below he shows his good feet, and impressive upper body power. His transition to Varsity should be a smooth one with the help of the great DeMatha program.
