We evaluated Hammonds earlier this rankings cycle as a potential rankings riser in the spring, and we stand by those comments. I love a rangy safety prospect, and Hammonds is as good as they get in pass coverage from his free safety position at this age. He’s developing as a run stopper, but he’s not afraid of contact, and we think he’ll grow into one of the better well-rounded safety prospects in the class.

It took me a bit longer to see Hammonds’ film from this past season, but I’m on board with the long, rangy safety. Several of Hammonds’ interceptions this season were on the other side of the field, where he simply got to balls that quarterbacks didn’t think he’d reach. He has good instincts, and he’s gaining weight, which should help with his profile.

Hammonds has very limited film, but we think he has the upside to be a top deep safety in the class. He has the frame to add more weight and he has excellent ball skills. He plays a bit of receiver as well, but his future is at safety, where he can read the quarterback and make plays on the ball.
