What I just said about size, you can say again about Tyler, as he’s big and strong, and has had a lot of interest from college football programs. The adage about you can’t teach size rings true here, but Tyler brings some talent with him, too. I like how well he can set the edge in the running game, and he’s got some burst to get to the quarterback with a nice combination of strength and speed in his pass rush.
Surles plays primary off the edge for Parkwood and didn’t record stats as a tight end in 2024, but he has the body and athleticism to make a future impact at the position. There’s plenty of projection here, but if Surles doesn’t put on the necessary weight to thrive on the edge, I think he could find a strong home at tight end.
Surles is one of a number of really talented young players coming through the Parkwood program and he got some extended varsity run last season. He has a great frame and seems to be adding weight this offseason. That should help, even though he was excellent against the run last season, racking up seven tackles for loss. He’s developing physically, so we’re excited to see how he can build on a promising freshman campaign.
Though Surles hasn’t yet filled put his frame, he’s a strong and lengthy edge rusher who plays multiple sports. He’s still learning the intricacies of the position, but his pass-rush work rate is excellent and he made some nice plays as a freshman. Expect him to put on some more weight and thrive as he gains more experience.
