I think the most interesting thing about this evaluation is that he is ranked as a wide receiver, but he also comes away impressed with his athletic skills on defense. Defensively, he lined up at cornerback and linebacker and made plays as a pass defender (interception, for example), pass rusher (pressure on the QB), and a run defender (tackle for a loss). From a wide receiver standpoint, Thomas has the ability to crack the top 10 at that position if given enough opportunities. His size, ball skills, and ability to accelerate after the catch all make him a matchup nightmare. Currently at 195 pounds, he has room to add good weight. I think he is a long strider from a speed standpoint. Also, physically, there are plays on his highlights where he runs through tackles and wins 50/50 balls. I’ll say this much: I wouldn’t be surprised if he is also being recruited on defense. Some additional weight and added strength, and you have a solid linebacker prospect with great athleticism for the position. Just a thought.
