Expert Analysis
Will Helms | Prep Redzone Scout
One of the top two-way prospects in the state, we like Thompson-Wynn best on offense. He’s a sudden mover who is electric with the ball in his hands, leading to plenty of big plays on offense, defense, and special teams. Not only did he put up nearly 1,500 yards from scrimmage, but he scored five non-offensive touchdowns, as well. This year, he’s transferred to Roberson after winning a state title at Brevard, so we’re interested to see what he can do as a senior.

Tristan has moved to TC Roberson High School in Asheville, per reports, so they will be getting one of the best wide receivers in the state of North Carolina. Tristan’s speed is dynamic, and no one in Western North Carolina could keep up with him, as he had 1450 receiving yards this past season for Brevard. Tristan is also a dangerous kickoff returner; all he needs is a sliver, and he can easily take it the distance with his athletic ability and vision with the football in his hands. Tristan closes the cushion on cornerbacks and runs past them with impressive burst as well. Tristan currently has an offer from East Carolina, and he definitely deserves more recruiting attention.

Thompson-Wynn could be listed as an athlete, but we like him best as a receiver, at this point. He can absolutely fly, but more than that, he has the vision of a running back to find the open field and avoid defenders. Every time he’s on the field, he impacts the game, whether as a receiver, defensive back, or kick returner. He was second in the state in receiver, the only player with four special teams touchdowns, and picked off five passes. We have him ranked above where most of his current recruiting interest is coming from.

Thompson-Wynn debuts inside the top 60, the highest-ranked debutant in the 2027 rankings. I’ll be honest, we were behind, but we’re still ahead of most college coaches. He’s explosive, quick, and has home run ability on the outside. He’s averaging 22 yards per catch, but also has three return touchdowns, two on kickoffs and one on a punt. He’s an FBS prospect with the potential to move into the Power Five range, and if you don’t know his name yet, you should take a look.
