Matt DeBary | Prep Redzone Scout
A playmaking quarterback who always has his eyes down the field, Winston is a dual-threat quarterback from Lithonia who continues to play at a high level. He’s one of the more productive quarterbacks east of Atlanta and is having a giant 2025 season right now, throwing for 1,682 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s also able to make plays with his legs as he’s run for 214 yards, averaging an impressive 9.3 yards per carry. As a passer, he throws a soft, catchable ball down the field and does a good job of leading his receivers so they can pick up yards after the catch. He’s been really impressive and will see a new Prep Redzone ranking come his way this winter.

Winston, who doubles as a basketball athlete, has taken huge steps forward each year and is saving his best for his senior season. Winston has completed 70% of his passes, thrown 12 TDs against 2 INTs, all while contributing as a runner. Winston is a loose athlete with good demanor in the pocket, using his legs as a way to dodge traffic and find a launching point, not as an excuse to bail on the passing game. The ball jumps out of his hand and he does a good job moving it up and down over the middle of the field to drop it in and escort receivers away from traffic. I love the finesse in his game and would consider him a college level QB prospect.

Thomas Winston is still tying everything together, but some evident physical traits will place him onto college radars. Winston is up to 6’1 and is around 170 pounds. He is tall and thin but is still in the infancy stages of his physical growth. He is a twitchy athlete, utilizing his suddenness in the pocket to evade pressure and keep his jersey clean. In the open field, he can pose as a playmaker with his legs, showing his ability to juke and weave around tacklers. Arm strength is more than apparent on tape. He has a long, natural delivery that cuts through the ball. It arrives quickly over the middle of the field and he has consistently proved he can bomb the ball over the top. Harnessing his arm talent is the next step in his development. However, this year especially, he has shown that he is capable of keeping the ball high and throwing with good touch, getting the ball to turn over the top and into the basket of his receivers.
