McClain uses his very good strength to pull the ball carrier down with force. Good get off speed and good block shedding. Very good range. McClain has very good pursuit, and is consistently all over the field to make tackles. One thing of note, is how he punches the ball out of the ball carrier’s hands leading to fumbles. He’s already put the state on notice with how he’s playing, and I can’t wait to see how the rest of his season unfolds.

He diagnoses plays quickly and doesn’t waste time reacting, he is able to knife through the line to make a tackle for loss or dropping back in coverage to eliminate passing lanes. He plays with poise and balance, rarely caught out of position. When called on to rush the passer, McClain can create instant pressure and finish at the point of contact. With his blend of coverage skills, downhill ability, and field awareness, McClain is a defender who could rise fast if he continues to build on his early promise.
