Expert Analysis
Paul Gregorian | Prep Redzone Scout
The Modesto Christian product is a strong and powerful runner that gets downhill in a hurry and can run tough inside the tackles with natural forward lean and contact balance/leg drive through tacklers. He is a two-way guy and one of the top 2029 ATH’s in the region and should have a breakout sophomore season for Modesto Christian and is also a effective linebacker, strong tackler and can make plays behind the line. He also shows he can catch the ball out of the backfield, quickly knife upfield and make tacklers miss in space with quick lateral movement and twitch. Heading into the 2026 season, he is one of the top sophomores to watch across the central valley and should start drawing some college attention here soon over the next year.

Mahafutau was a two-way playmaker for Modesto Christian as a freshman totaling 718 scrimmage yards with 3 touchdowns at RB and 111 tackles with 10 tackles for loss at LB. He possesses a wide skillset with a strong compact frame at 5’8” 205 lbs. Plays violently downhill on both sides of the ball bringing heavy contact and force to the POA. Low center of gravity he displays excellent contact balance initiating with proper leverage, pad level, and leg drive. At RB, he carries the ball with a good combination of strength and speed being able to pick up tough yards between the tackles or extend gains once in space. At LB, he’s quick to diagnose run/pass and flies to the football with good burst to close and efficient angles. A lot to like about his overall skillset and upside.
