Wald is the epitome of a bruising back with a unique blend of power and speed that has been on my radar since last offseason. Wald punishes defenders who try to stand in his way, yet his acceleration in the open field makes him just as dangerous. Wald’s vision and ability to set up his blocks allow him to maximize yardage on every carry. He is a player that can make things happen in the open field and has a knack for picking up chunk yardage when the ball is in his hands. His work ethic and hunger for improvement are evident in his growth and was on full display all season. Wald is a must-recruit for any program seeking a tough, determined player who can anchor their backfield because he is a big play waiting to happen and will be a great addition to any running back room.

Sawyer finished 8th this year on the mighty running back list with 1,647 yards on 181 attempts and an opponent gashing 23 touchdowns, but for this season’s top performance list, he is the Captain! Sawyer saw everything that night, October 25th, when he played Holy Family, and oh, Holy god, was he blessed running the ball 38 times for 355 yards on an average of 9.3 yards a touch, but five baptisms gave Sawyer the number one spot!

Sawyer has been feasting this year! He currently ranks 7th overall in rushing yards. The 6’1 210-pound senior has 113 carries for 1024 yards for 13 touchdowns. Through the air, he has 7 receptions for 116 yards and 1 touchdown. Each game he’s played, he’s gone over 100+ yards. Wald is like a bowling ball out there, using his angry runs to break down a defense. He has very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration, change of direction, and balance. Wald uses his very good vision to ID which hole to run through, and attacks it. He has home run speed to run past the 2nd and 3rd level of defense into the end zone. He has very smooth cuts, and it looks like he’s gliding on the field. Wald uses his powerful legs to keep churning when multiple defenders are trying to drag him down. He’s also a threat catching out of the backfield. He’s got good catching and uses his skills out in open space to juke defenders out. He was a player at our showcase earlier this year, and really showed out!! I’m glad to see him continuing balling out. Again, colleges need to look at his tape because he can be a solid contributor on any team.

Wald was a one-man wrecking crew in Lutheran’s backfield during Week 2. The running back put on a clinic, amassing 213 yards on just 12 carries, an astonishing 17.8 yards per carry. Wald also tacked on 3 touchdowns, capping off a performance that left the defense searching for answers. His speed and agility were the cornerstones of his night, but it was his ability to make the first defender miss that truly stood out. Time and again, Wald turned potential short gains into long runs by shaking off would-be tacklers with ease. He wasn’t just effective in the run game; Wald also contributed as a receiver, hauling in a 40-yard reception that showcased his ability to make plays in the passing game.

Wald was a big back that was able to use his speed at times to make a defender miss. I liked that he was very coachable and was able to take what the coaches were telling him and then implement that in the drill work. He was able to break defenders down more consistently when the coach gave him a couple of tips. He was a player that was able to show growth quickly and should be someone to add to the radar moving forward.
