Expert Analysis
Sam Erman | Prep Redzone Scout
Gray is a fantastic athlete on the outside who has no issue being the lone man on an island. He’s got good range and even better closing speed. He’s able to stay right in phase with his man and flip his hips to run. A lot of the physical things you need to have to be successful on the outside come naturally to him. He knows how to break on the ball in zone, which helps put him in a position to make a play. I like where he’s at right now and feel like he has true corner potential with the ability to move around the backend.

Gray is an upcoming versatile piece for Portage who can play both out wide on his own and then play the backend and be the last line of defense. He’s got a good backpedal and can gain depth with ease. He can flip his hips and run when he needs to as well. He’s then disciplined in the run game and will fill his gap. He can make the tackle when it’s coming right to him, and he won’t shy away from the contact. He’s got long arms and good timing on when to bat the ball away or go for the pick. He made his first handful of plays this year, putting up 23 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 PBU, and an interception. Portage has some talented young defensive pieces, and Gray is one who I think they can rely on.
