Rainey is a very, very versatile player. Right off the back, you’ll see him lurk backward, follow the QB’s eyes, and secure a great pick-six. The very next play, he jumps on a route and picks off the pass. Throughout the rest of Rainey’s defensive tape, he makes several very good run stops. It’s a simple thing, really, but SO many DBs struggle mightily in the run game.
He also has a few highlights on offense, showing solid elusiveness and even some contact balance in the open field (3:09).
Good tape and a key piece for what should be a playoff team!

I really liked the versatility I saw with Rainey through the first few weeks of the season. At first, I saw some highlights of him being down in the box and having to bail and recover to cover a receiver, and his closing speed was particularly impressive. I also liked his ability to blow up swing passes and screens with sound open field tackling. When the ball comes his way on deeper routes, he has no issue playing the ball for a pick or PBU. Rainey holds his own against some steep competition which is always encouraging to see!
