Expert Analysis

Preston Liberal is as steady as they come on the offensive line. His technique is clean with very few lapses, and what really sets him apart is his rock-solid base. At 6’2″, 300 pounds, he plants his feet with authority, making him an absolute nightmare to move. His ability to anchor and hold ground is a big reason he earned All-League honors in back-to-back seasons and caught the attention of college programs like Wayne State. Whether it was dominating at the You Are Athlete Camp, where he took home OL MVP, or holding his own in the trenches on Friday nights, Liberal has proven he’s built for the next level.

If there were a kid I was surprised to do so well, it would be Preston. I knew he was a talented kid, but competing against upperclassmen is usually difficult for kids, not for Preston. Preston was able to compete with every defensive lineman he faced and won most of his reps. He showed quick feet and a great ability to anchor against bull rushes. Although he was not perfect and needs to continue working on his technique, he showed great skill and strength for a freshman, and I am looking forward to his sophomore year.

Liberal started for Cascade Christian as a freshman this year, but you wouldn’t know it by his size. He’s already as big as some college lineman are, but his best quality is his balance. He has a great low center of gravity and his confidence in his lateral movement makes him hard to get around or penetrate as a pass protector. He takes great backward steps to anchor down and creates an ideal pocket for several seconds. He played very agile at 273 lb. and has attended several showcases since his freshman season ended. He can push players downfield and away from the play with a good angle and brute force. His next three years should see him near the top of his class’ rankings, especially as he gets older and further recruited.
