Expert Analysis

Van Meter’s replacement for next season will likely be Phillip McFatridge, a sophomore tailback who proved he belongs. McFatridge is like Van Meter: a tough tailback who finishes forward and can be hard to bring down. He is a legitimate threat in the passing game, making catches and adjusting high and low to the ball. Keep an eye on him to develop into a solid player down the line.

Mcfatridge had a fairly productive first year on varsity and gained confidence as the year went on. He was active on both sides of the ball, and it was clear to me that the staff trusts him. He touched the ball 40 times on offense and had 4 TDs: 3 rushing and 1 receiving. However, he’s mainly active on defense and strikes me as a guy who understands ball and concepts. He had 52 tackles, 4 TFLs, 7 PBUs, 2 fumble recoveries, and 2 interceptions. He’s good in coverage and can come downhill to tackle. I appreciate his effort and just how much he’s willing to do for his team.
