After exhibiting strong leadership qualities and incredible play from the middle of the field during the Cleats V Cancer game, Watkins recruiting has finally began to heat up. He exhibits excellent on- and off ball qualities, proving twitchy and flexible enough to get low when blitzing, and staying incredibly disciplined in his reads and footwork to allow his hands to make plays in coverage. He’s as vocal and intense of a leader as you’ll find in the middle of the defense and could inspire the most “chill” players. Has narrowly shown up on recruiting radars, but high-profile teammates at the same position made his season at Garfield difficult to evaluate. Watkins received his second offer from Montana State Northern over the weekend and remains one of the top players available in the state.

After being added to our rankings this month, Watkins has made a case to be higher through the North-1:00’s practices. He’s vocally led the defense since practice begun, and he matches his intensity with high football IQ and great footwork. He has the ability to destroy several plays in a row when he gets an early read. He has a low stance, runs on the balls of his feet and is incredibly agile at 220 lb. He hits hard with disciplined form before wrapping. Watkins took over the North-1:00 scrimmage when on the field today, to the point an OL gave him props on behalf of his peers for making their life difficult. He’s received one offer so far and should be one of the most coveted players in Monday’s game.
