Expert Analysis
Paul Gregorian | Prep Redzone Scout
Sargent has had a very efficient season from the quarterback position and is poised in the pocket with a live arm and good athleticism when navigating through traffic and is looking to be a very nice late steal here for a college team as we near each national signing day. He has put together a string of very impressive performances this year and had another strong showing in the CCS semi-finals against Santa Teresa throwing for 360+ yards and 4 scores while adding another 2 rushing touchdowns on the ground. He has been one of the better signal callers across the WCAL for the past several seasons and will be looking to have another strong performance against St. Ignatius in the CCS finals.

Sargent is a very efficient passer with a quick release, strong throwing mechanics and can buy time with his legs if needed outside the pocket. Although a true pocket passer, he moves well outside the pocket while able to escape pressure and can tuck it and run when buying time. He shows good downfield accuracy and leads his receivers open with throw anticipation and can fit it into tight windows over the middle and hit spots outside the hashes with zip on the ball. One of the top passers in the WCAL, he has had a very productive prep career up to this point, and is looking to be a next level steal.

Sargent is quietly having a very nice Junior campaign in the vaunted WCAL, and has put up some big time performances now for back to back weeks. He has a big arm downfield, shows good precision in tight windows with anticipation and scans the field quickly while doing a nice job at moving defenders with his eyes. Although suffering a tough loss on Friday night, he had a stellar performance throwing for over 400 yards and 4 scores in a tough 49-24 loss against St. Francis.

Sargent had to miss 4 games to start his 2023 campaign due to transfer rules from San Marin, but still managed to put up some big time numbers and was an all WCAL selection. He threw for over 1,500+ yards and 11 TD’s in only six games played, and should be one of the better signal callers in the WCAL this Fall. On tape, he shows he is a on schedule thrower with good arm talent and really steps into his throws while able to put good zip on the ball and throws a tight spiral into tight windows with ease. He also shows tremendous escapability when breaking tackles in the backfield and moves the pocket well while keeping his eyes downfield and is not afraid to lay it out there for his receivers to make plays. Look for Sargent to make a big leap into year two at SHC and be a name to note across the vaunted WCAL.
