McDonough is a junior offensive linemen out of Andrew High School. The 6’4, 290 lbs guard earned IHSFCA 7A All-State Honorable Mention Honors after his monster junior campaign. McDonough is an athletic, physical, and nasty player who understands leverage to pave rushing lanes in the run game. He has a quick first step and plays with a strong base that can move opposing defensive linemen backwards at the snap. He uses his hands well and delivers a strong punch that can stun defenders once in contact with McDonough. He moves incredible well, especially considering his size, and can seal off 3 and 1 techniques on down blocks. McDonough is a rising star who is ready to dominate his senior season.
One of Illinois’ best OL in his Class got his season off on the right foot based on his Week 1 film. Michael has excellent traits that will give him the ability to play FBS football. He has great body control and flexibility. Michael is able to play low, explode out of his stance in the run game, play with consistently accurate hand placement, and the power that comes with the sharp technique allows him to reset the line of scrimmage in the run game. Michael’s range jumps off the tape too. He is able to close quickly on LBs, and lands hard hitting blocks on them. Michael is the type of athlete you need on the interior of your OL. Power, athleticism, size, flexibility. He is developing it all at a great rate.
The 6’3, 270 lbs guard from Andrew High School brought the hammer down on nearly every play in his sophomore season. McDonough plays with a nastiness that is hard to find in underclassmen. On down blocks in the run game, McDonough plays with low pad level and strong hand placement that allows him to drive defenders backwards and plant them on the ground. He gets quicker the closer he gets to contact and uses his hips to out-leverage defenders. McDonough shows off his athleticism on combo blocks and when pulling. He can climb to the second level with ease, taking advantage of undersized linebackers and finishing blocks on them. When kicking out, McDonough uses his entire body to lay out defenders. McDonough is about as physical as it gets and his stock is soaring heading into his junior campaign.
