After getting a glimpse of Makhai this offseason, I’m excited to see his full tape roll out this season. I only had the chance to see one highlight, but it was an impressive one, as Makhai went up against a defender for the football and simply yanked it away to finish the play. Combined with his physical dimensions and the buzz surrounding him from other scouts, there are plenty of reasons to be intrigued. His invitations to multiple camps this offseason further speak to the level of athlete he is becoming.

While I haven’t seen enough film yet to fully evaluate his game, the limited glimpse I’ve had, along with his camp exposure and growing reputation, points toward a player with significant upside. The full tape should give us a much better idea of just how high his ceiling can be heading into the season.

Makhai’s Instagram highlights from this summer have me hooked; he’s a receiver in the 2031 class who demands attention. The kid’s a burner, exploding off the line with speed that leaves defenders scrambling. His ability to track the ball is one of his biggest skill sets, especially on those jump balls down the sideline where he shows crazy mid-air awareness to snag the catch and get both feet in bounds. Add in his knack for acrobatic grabs, and you’ve got a playmaker who can turn any pass into a highlight. I’m hyped to see tape of him battling top-tier DBs.
