Smith is a young recruit who looks like he’s taken a big step from year one to year two. He’s playing with more confidence, flying to the football, and looks stronger when he gets there. He finished week three with 13 tackles and has been consistent since the start of the season, and he looks much more comfortable within the defense. The game seems to be slowing down for him, and he’s playing faster because of it.

Smith is a smooth athlete who moves really well and bends naturally in space. He has good instincts near the line of scrimmage and closes on plays in a hurry once he sees an opening. He also has the speed to hold up in man coverage when needed, which gives him some added versatility. I like that he doesn’t overpursue or try to do too much. He trusts what he sees, commits to it, and usually ends up in the right spot. That patience and discipline stand out just as much as the athleticism.
