Expert Analysis
Oliver West | Prep Redzone Scout
Straight from the Centennial State, Golden, Colorado’s Liam Leffert showed up and showed out at the second-ever Macalester College High-Academic Prospect Camp late last week in St. Paul. PrepRedzone has been to more than our fair share of prospect camps since late May, and throughout the multi-state adventure we are currently underway with, Leffert’s hands have stood out amongst all others. Leffert caught anything and everything thrown his way, and along with his good size and room to grow, Leffert flashed as a linebacker during both drill work and half-skelly, and he was demonstrating consistent ball skills and a huge catch radius in a variety of football-related situations and drills throughout the camp. 4.43 unweighted GPA as well!

Leffert measures in at 5’11 195-pounds. Last season, he had 95 total tackles (36 solo, 59 assisted), 2 TFL, 1 sack, 5 QB pressures, 2 PD, 1 FF, including a blocked field goal. He has good athletic ability due to his very good lateral quickness, good speed, acceleration, and jumping. Good range. Good read and reaction speed with good mental processing. Trusts what he sees and attacks. Leffert has good block shedding and get off speed. Good tackling. He also has good zone coverage. Leffert is looking to continue momentum from a good season into the camp one, and I believe he will boost himself doing so.

Leffert is a high IQ linebacker who can avoid blocks being able to shed them quickly and can read and react fast, making quick decisions when blitzing. He finished the season with 41 total tackles and a tackle for loss, showing solid vision and the ability to disrupt passing lanes with pass deflections and even getting his hands on interceptions. Leffert’s ability to read the play, shoot gaps, and make clean stops gives him strong upside going forward. Expect his name to keep rising if he is able to build on this success and should be able to turn some heads this upcoming season.
