Layton was a second team All-Stater last year for the Mandan Braves, as another ND defensive linemen trending up on my 2026 ND board. I came away impressed with Layton’s development when it comes to his speed getting off blocks as you can see the progression he made from our last live eval. By playing on both sides of the ball, I feel Layton shows off a sound football IQ based on what I see on tape and one thing I still recall from my memory at the Minot State Big Man Camp last summer, this young man brings the competitive edge from start to finish of his reps which I am sure will corelate well at camps this summer.

Man, did I enjoy watching the Giggee twins get after eacother in 1v1 reps, as Layton is one of two of them that plays with a heck of a competive edge that was shown all day in Minot. From a testing perspective, Layton tested amongst the best within the defensive tackle group. Not to mention I feel like his motor and hand strength has certainly gotten more depth since our last winter Prep Redzone Dakotas Combine in Jamestown. Layton certainly passed the eye-test for growth in Minot as DL2 in North Dakotas’s 2026 class. Twitter

Layton was another 2026 defensive linemen I had circled prior to our Prep Redzone Dakotas Showcase, as one of the top defensive linemen in the 2026 class in North Dakota. What did Layton show off in Jamestown? His pad-level certainly popped out in my eyes and he showed more agility coming off his first step and initial contact than I had expected with his developing footwork. This young man also has a grinder of a motor that you want in the trenches of your defensive line, and on tape Layton shows off a defensive tackle that can go make a tackle around the edges of the field with a plethora of physicality on every tackle. Layton showed off a 2026 prospect that I see having a great upcoming junior year and a sizable ceiling with his upside.
