Another quarterback sneaks inside our top 30 prospects in the state, and this time it’s Shelbyville quarterback Layden Fitzgerald. Like all the others, Fitzgerald is very good at throwing on the move, looks very accurate in the short/intermediate game, and throws with good zip and velocity between the hashes. He is coming off a freshman season where he threw for 1,448 yards and 15 passing touchdowns; if production increases this season, he’ll be a name to know.
Layden Fitzgerald is a quarterback for Shelbyville High School. Fitzgerald, a Class of 2029 prospect, has a quick release and accurate arm, especially over the middle of the field. He throws with great velocity on short/intermediate passes, flashes solid touch on the deep ball and does a great job of setting his feet and pulling the trigger. He finished last season with 1,448 passing yards and 15 touchdowns through the air.
Fitzgerald is a poised young quarterback who looks good. He’s been in total command of the offense since week 1. He’s a good athlete who could be labeled as dual-threat, but I like his awareness and calmness in the pocket. He’s completed 58% of his throws for 586 yards and 6 TDs, and then added 162 yards and 3 TDs with his legs.
