Expert Analysis
Jordan Reyes | Prep Redzone Scout
Ellis leads the pack of returning NCS rushers after racking up 1,495 yards and 25 touchdowns on 176 carries as a junior despite missing 6 games. 5’10” 200 lbs. he’s got powerful frame with a strong lower half. Low center of gravity gives him great balance and ability to absorb contact while maintaining leg drive. He shows natural ball carrier instincts and field vision to quickly identify lanes and anticipate how blocks will develop. Runs with patience and temp to allow creases to open before making decisive cuts. Difficult to wrap up in one on one situations, he’s a physical runner that can break tackles and pick up yards after contact. Currently holds three D1 offers from Grambling State, Sac State, and Northern Arizona.

Ellis is another one of the top returning players across the north coast section heading into the 2026 season and is a violent runner that packs a punch in the hole and has sneaky open field speed in the clear. He has a very strong build and powerful lower half that can run through arm/ankle tackles and shows he is a north and south runner that is tough to take down once he gets going behind his pads. His low center of gravity and constant leg drive and willingness to always fall forward allowed him to rumble for 1,500 and 25 touchdowns on his way to helping the Dragons win a CIF state title. Look for plenty of colleges to show interest this off-season and through his senior year, he should once again have another big time season for O’Dowd.

Ellis has rushed for 1113 yards on 131 carries with 17 touchdowns for Bishop O’Dowd this season. He is averaging 8.5 yards per carry and has rushed for over 100 yards in six of his seven games this season.
He’s a downhill runner who picks up a few yards after contact because of his ability to drive legs through contact. Ellis navigates traffic well at the first two levels.

Ellis has been on an absolute tear this season ever since completing his sit-out period after transferring from James Logan. He is a stellar athlete with elite contact balance and physicality through the hole while able to gain the tough yards inside, look for contact and also has the lateral movement and twitch to get outside the tackles as well. He has been posting numerous 100+ yard rushing performances through out the season for the Dragons and this week in the NCS D6 semi-finals it was no different in St. Helena. Ellis erupted again and rushed for 182 yards and 4 touchdowns in a lopsided win over the Saints and is another prospect that should see his stock rise this off-season as he is one of the top ’27 backs across the bay area.

Ellis is a big and physical runner that has been dominant for O’Dowd since transferring over for his Junior season from James Logan and completing his sit-out period. He is a true vertical compact runner that gets behind his pads and can gain the tough yards inside while showing some wiggle and lateral twitch both in space and in the hole. He is a natural ball carrier that packs a punch at the POA, looks for contact in the hole and has outstanding contact balance when bouncing off tacklers and has under-rated open field speed in the clear as well. He has rushed for 725 yards in only 5 games played and is coming off another 100+ yard rushing performance with 1 score against San Leandro. Bishop O’Dowd should be the heavy favorite in the NCS D6 bracket and well on their way to a Norcal bowl game bid.

Ellis is one of the top backs across northern California regardless of class, and went over the 1,200+ yard marker last season in APY and tacked on another 12 touchdowns in only his Sophomore year. He is a low to the ground compact runner that runs angry behind his pads and is tough to bring down with natural forward lean and leg drive through contact. Although not possessing elite downfield speed, he has a strong initial burst through the first level and shows he can run tough inside while able to bounce it if needed and has good vision in tight spaces/lateral movement to navigate traffic. Out of the backfield, he also shows good hands and body control while able to excel in pass protection as well. Look for Ellis to have a truly breakout Junior season for the Colts.
