A small-town athlete who really shined last season as a freshman, Yates showed he was physical enough to make plays against the run while providing dependable cover skills against the pass. He’s a natural athlete with a feel for the ball who can help in all phases of the game. He’s got good size for his age and will only get bigger and stronger over time. He’s fresh off a really strong freshman season where he made 58 tackles, three TFLs and an impressive 19 pass-breakups. He’s one of the top young defenders in the state with easy Power Four potential.

A small-town athlete who can play both receiver and defensive back, Yates is a promising prospect with a lengthy frame and plenty of confidence. He’s been tested in coverage this year and has held his own throughout the season so far as a freshman. He runs well for his size and will only get better as he gains more experience and puts more mass on. He’s not afraid of contact and has made 37 tackles this season with two TFLs and an eye-opening 14 pass breakups in coverage. He’s also a weapon on special teams as a reliable punt and kick returner. He’ll be an easy addition to the next 2029 Prep Redzone rankings and should push for All-Region honors later this fall.
