Expert Analysis
Dom Skene | Prep Redzone Scout
Turner anchored the South’s defense on Monday, playing nearly the entire game at outside corner. He shut down the North’s playmakers all game long, playing tons of cover 2 and 3 and keeping receivers close with his hands. He was barely targeted and forced the North’s passing game to the other side of the field. His quick feet get him to the right spot and his ball skills scare QB’s, who prefer to avoid his vicinity entirely. He shows a good understanding of leverage and seems hard to block. The recruiting hype surrounding Turner seems to have just begun, as his first offer came after the game Tuesday from Lincoln and his second Saturday from Central Washington.

Turner’s got a strong foundational skillset to build on with plus size, length, and athleticism at 6’1” 185 lbs. He’s a rangy safety that can play sideline to sideline and be equally effective in run support as he is in coverage. Good all-around game speed to cover the deep half of the field or come downhill and close space in a hurry. Excellent open field tackler that does a good job breaking down in space and wrapping up to the ground. Grew up playing basketball and also a good receiver on the offensive end. Still new to the game after just completing his second season of football but has the size and skillset to be a quality college prospect as he continues to develop.

Turner has exceptional ball tracking abilities, which contributed to very solid interception numbers in his junior season and will set him up for success this season and beyond. He does a great job of always following the quarterback’s eyes while proficiently playing his zone, making him a tough player to throw against because of how well he sees and reacts to the field. Similarly impressive is his range and general movement ability; he does a fantastic job of working both sideline-to-sideline and downhill to make plays in both the pass and run games. Turner is another guy who is used all over the field for his team, playing both corner and safety at a high level, and his impressive length comes into effect when he plays the latter, as it allows him to make plays on the ball that look like easy completions initially. He has not been getting a ton of attention on the recruiting trail, but he is absolutely someone I think will start to turn some heads with some big performances in the early part of the season.
