Expert Analysis

Jus’sir had the best catch of the day, in my opinion. Climbed the ladder against a DB and went right up and over him. I thought he looked like a natural route runner and natural catching the football, and he moved really well in space. He was one of the thicker, more filled out runningbacks at the event. He was intense and brought some really good energy to the event.

A product of the Southern Rams AYF program, Smith was an unknown to me until earlier this season when we saw him at tryouts for the 14U Jersey Shore AYF All-Stars. Smith exploded onto the scene with an excellent tryout there in mid-September and hasn’t looked back. The Running Back position group had several very capable backs that shined in multiple areas. It was an extremely close call, but Smith took the MVP after a lot of conversations post-camp.

Jus’sir Smith walked away from Saturday’s event with the title of RB MVP. One of those running backs that stands out amongst the pack, Jus’sir proved himself Saturday morning by putting on a performance that set the standard for RBs in the state. Not only did Jus’sir excel when going up against the LBs and DBs in routes, but I really thought he shined when it came to the individual drills. Jus’sir showed precise, calculated foot movement as he moved through the cone drills. He also demonstrated that he can move decisively and react quickly to defenders, capable of making them whiff in open space. Jus’sir is advanced, and schools need to pay attention to this star in the making.
