About Jemel
Expert Analysis
Dame Lester | Prep Redzone Scout
Grigsby, a 5-9, 175-pound three-star athlete, is a gifted two-way player with sideline-to-sideline speed and versatility on offense/special teams. His strengths: Agility, playmaking in space, and elusiveness that makes him a hidden gem. Weaknesses: Smaller size limits him in physical matchups. To exploit Simms, Grigsby should attack with quick releases and YAC bursts, using motion to create mismatches and testing Simms’ recovery on double moves.

Gifted athlete and pure football player that can impact the game from multiple skilled positions on both sides of the ball. Smooth and savvy in the secondary with good twitch and flexibility in his hips. Shows good timing in his transition and accelerates out with good leg drive/burst. Like his ability to recover and close separation with the ball in the air. Strong at the catch point, he plays through the hands to disrupt receivers and break up passes. 5’10” 175 lbs. he can match up and stay in phase working out of the slot or on the perimeter. Multi tool skillset flashed throughout his sophomore season with 54 tackles and 4 interceptions on defense, in addition to his 835 scrimmage yards and 9 touchdowns on offense. Racked up several post season accolades including Utility Player of the Year for the Moore League and was a top performer at the recent PRZ SoCal Showcase. He’s an under the radar prospect that could pop at any time.

Grigsby is it true safety and big time hitter at the third level that covers a ton of ground and is a excellent open field tackler while packing a punch at the point of attack and covering ground quickly underneath. He triggers quickly to ball carriers, takes the proper angles when coming downhill and has natural ball skills in transition with fluid hips and recovery speed if beat over the top. He plays sound in zone coverage with disciplined eyes and is a diverse defender that brings a lot to the table from the third level and is a plus athlete for the position. His versatility and ability to play both the pass over the top and come downhill in run support makes him a intriguing prospect and still has two years left in his prep career.

Grigsby ran for 578 yards with seven touchdowns for Wilson last season and had two receiving touchdowns.
He was a top five finisher at running back and defensive back at the Prep Redzone Stock Up Showcase in January and had four interceptions last season. His field vision is excellent and he has good instincts at the first two levels and down the field. Grigsby often lines up in the slot and makes big runs off tackle off the sweep game. He is a touch matchup for linebackers in pass coverage as well.

It’s hard to explain the talent of this young kid because he’s so talented. He was a top running back at the showcase as well. He’s a natural athlete. He has really good footwork and great hips. He has the ability to jam receivers at the line and the quickness to stay in front of them. He has great recovery speed to where he can give receivers enough cushion to make it seem like they’re open and then he closes on the ball. He understands that he needs to catch the ball at its highest point when defending. He’s young, but plays like a four-year starter. I get excited watching him play cornerback. He’s one of the only DB’s that had an interception at the showcase. The best part is that he’s only a sophomore so he has a lot of time to work on his craft.
Grigsby is a dynamic, multi-position athlete with elite instincts and athleticism for his age. His versatility would allow him to impact games on both sides of the ball and special teams, making him a high-upside prospect. With continued development, and growth in size, he projects as a Power 5 contributor, potentially at cornerback or running back. With no offers yet, he’s an under-the-radar talent poised for a recruiting spike.

Grigsby showcased his versatility earning top performer honors among both the RB and DB groups at Sunday’s showcase. The two-way playmaker out of Long Beach (Wilson) showed an explosive skillset and great ball skills at both positions. He was a standout on both sides of the ball as a sophomore averaging 10 YPC with 550+ rushing yards and 7 TDs on the ground and tallied 54 tackles (36 solo) and 4 INTs on defense. He offers promising upside in his versatility, possesses projectable skills/traits as a nickel CB, and has proven production at an early stage of his development. Grigsby is a 2028 prospect to monitor as he continues to grow and develop.
