Most people reading this know how talented Jalaythan is – and it’s natural talent meeting the ideal physical profile college football programs are looking for at the linebacker position. The film jumps off the page with elite athleticism, instincts, and tackling ability in the open field. The most important thing for Jalaythan right now is his recruiting, so we’ll focus on that for this article. Jalaythan announced his spring visits about a month ago, which include NC State, Oregon, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, Louisville, and Georgia Tech. He is nearly complete with those, and we can presume he will make a college football program happy after that with a commitment announcement. That program will get a great talent, a great leader, and a wonderful young man by all accounts I’ve heard and received!

Mayfield’s best trait is his ability to get downhill against the run. Not only does he have excellent reactions, but his run fits are remarkably sound, and he can get to the line in a hurry. So many of his 26 tackles for loss as a junior were plays that a normal linebacker would have made three yards down the field, even with the correct read. Mayfield, though, is fast enough to fill holes at the line of scrimmage. He’s also a fierce competitor and hard-hitter, with six forced fumbles in 2025.

One of the top prospects in the state regardless of class and position, Mayfield has put on serious weight in the last year and now looks more like you’re prototypical MIKE backer after playing as more of a box safety as a freshman. The key is that he hasn’t lost any speed or acceleration, and it’s easy to tell on film just how much faster he is than the opposition. He often makes it look like opponents are in slow-motion while he reads and reacts to beat offensive players to a spot and make huge plays.

In the years I have been covering players, the meteoric rise Jalaythan showed this off-season from a recruiting perspective has been enormous. In early November last year, Jalaythan received his first offer from South Carolina. At the time of writing this, he now sits at 30 Division 1 offers, the vast majority being Power 4 schools. Colleges are hot after Jalaythan because at his size, he moves very well laterally and downhill, and he is an excellent tackler in space. On top of that, Jalaythan ‘s anticipation and eyes are off the charts. He gets to spots with extreme quickness and with great explosion. 103 solo tackles and 10 sacks from an off-ball linebacker position is very impressive, and I think he can produce even more this upcoming season for a team on the rise.

One of the fastest-rising prospects in not only our rankings, but the entire country, Mayfield has picked up nearly 20 offers since January after an excellent sophomore season. He’s mastered the art of stripping the ball on a tackle and had multiple instances of forced and recovered fumbles on the season. Despite his size, he’s a true sideline-to-sideline linebacker who still has some room to grow as a pass defender.
