I got an extended look at Daylin McClintock. During indy I remarked that McClintock bent at the waist, rather than bend. In coverage I thought he turned a moment too early and would benefit from reading/playing off of the matchup he is defending. Simply stated: McClintock’s hips must get looser if he wants to impact the varsity field this fall. I thought they were wound tight and not fluid. He does, however, have some spring when he must turn and go. During the 7v7 portion of the event I wished to see him break on the ball when things are in front of him with more vengeance. At safety McClintock played a bit too casual for my personal liking.

Daylin put together an impressive outing at the Next Combine, flashing the kind of upside that makes you take notice. With long arms and legs, he naturally covers ground quickly, giving him excellent closing speed and a wide catch radius to swat down passes. He made life difficult for receivers right from the snap, consistently jamming them at the line and throwing off their timing.

Daylin also showed poise in one-on-ones, using his length and body control to stay in phase throughout the route. His combination of physical traits, aggressive play style, and developing technique gives him true shutdown corner potential and makes him a name to watch closely in the coming years.
