David Lee Jr.
About David
Expert Analysis
Paul Gregorian | Prep Redzone Scout
Lee is one of the top pass rushers across the Bay Area and is a great athlete that can bend around the corner and win with both speed and power at the point of attack. He has the frame and length needed for the FCS+ level and can play a variety of positions at the first two levels. He is explosive off the ball, bends well around bigger blockers and is a diverse pass rusher that can win with both speed and power with primary or secondary moves at the top of his rush. He plays with heavy hands, redirects quickly and can close on passers backside while able to get off blocks, shock and shed into the backfield and is stout against the run as well. Lee is still waiting for his recruitment to take off but should gather offers through his senior year for the defending 7A state champs.

Lee made the transfer over to Balboa for his final two seasons of his prep career, and is a physical and twitchy edge prospect that excels as a pass rusher with active hands, natural bend and a diverse toolbox of speed and power rush moves. He shows he can play anywhere along the defensive front and has violent hands and is a high motor kid that shows pursuit to the ball and solid COD/movement in space. He will be one of the top pass rushers across northern California this Fall and should have a breakout Junior season.

Lee operated most of the season from his standup outside linebacker/defensive end position for Riordan, and is an elite pass rusher off the edge with length, initial explosion and active hands at the POA who plays well above his years as a first year high school player. He shows a quick first step get off, shoots his hands quickly to get into the chest of defenders and does a nice job at using his length and long strides to hold the edge in the run game and is also a natural bender around the edge when collapsing the pocket. He uses a variety of different primary and secondary pass rush moves, and already has all the starting tools to be a no brainer FBS caliber defender by the time his Riordan career ends. He is a high motor and effort kid that will be one of the top returning defenders across the vaunted WCAL in 2024 as only a Sophomore.

– One of the best pass-rushers that I’ve seen in Northern California for this 2027 class
– Does a phenomenal job of defeating blocks and getting up field quickly, yet under control. His length and overall quickness as an Edge/Defensive End make him a tough assignment for an Offensive Tackle if there isn’t a back to help chip with a block
– Possibly an even better basketball player than he is football player–which is scary. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound dual-sport athlete will be at Archbishop Riordan and should help the Crusaders quest to have a winning season on the gridiron–which they haven’t had since 2015
