Shumate takes direct snaps and handled QB duties for Monroe Area as a sophomore, but he projects out long-term as an RB. He is packed into his 5’9 frame with some muscle, and he runs with a low center of gravity. No-nonsense, downhill runner who has the blend of speed and explosiveness to take off. Wouldn’t call him a thumper, but he doesn’t peel off his path unnecessarily, and his downhill momentum helps him shed off tackle attempts. Underrated player who has 2 years to continue producing and making a name for himself.

An Athens-area runner who also played some quarterback this fall, Shumate was as consistent as any running back in the region last fall and did it as a sophomore. He shows quickness, ran with balance, and ran hard for is size. A multi-sport standout who also shines on the baseball diamond, Shumate was extremely consistent all season long as he rushed for 1,260 yards and 10 touchdowns. He ran for 200+ yards three times during the 2025 season and showed he can put the offense on his back. He ran for an impressive 8.2 yards per carry and was one of the best overall playmakers in the area. Look for Shumate to continue thriving and have another monster season next fall as a junior.

A fantastic dual-threat quarterback outside of Athens running as well as anyone in the area, Shumate is coming off a dominant month of October with games of 258 yards and 252 yards with three combined touchdowns over his final two games of the month. He’s quick, shifty, and has the ability to take off down the field when given space to run. He’s one of the more dynamic quarterbacks you’ll find in the region and he’s playing better and better as his sophomore season moves along. He’ll also earn a new Prep Redzone ranking when the new rankings are updated this winter.
