Scheel is a crafty, dual-threat quarterback. He has excellent vision in the running game, allowing him to find and exploit gaps at the line of scrimmage. With his running ability, seeing him throw well on the move was not a surprise. He has a strong enough arm to get the ball to the sidelines, but his biggest strength as a passer is the touch he is able to put on his deep throws. A two-way player, he plays a solid defensive back in the slot.
