At 6-foot-6, CJ gives the offense a big target on the outside and creates some tough matchups for defensive backs. His size gives him a wide catch radius, and I like his ability to go up and get the football when the quarterback gives him a chance. He can use his frame to shield defenders at the catch point, especially on fades and throws into tight coverage. CJ also has the potential to be a problem in the red zone, where that height becomes even harder to defend. As his route running continues to come along, there is a lot to like about what CJ can become at receiver.
CJ had a solid showing during drills and looked comfortable working through the different station work. He moved with good effort, stayed engaged on every rep, and didn’t shy away from competing when things got physical. There were flashes where his timing and awareness stood out, especially when he stayed composed and finished plays clean. As the drill work went on, he settled in and started stacking more consistent reps. Overall, it was a steady performance that showed he’s continuing to develop and build confidence.
Whaley is a prototype outside receiver with elite ball skills and body control. He consistently wins in contested situations because he attacks the football at the catch point which enables him to win on 50/50 balls consistently.
His basketball background shows up in his timing and elevation. Add in the ability to stretch the field, and you’re looking at a complete vertical threat.
Projection: High Power 4 / national recruit trajectory
Status: One of the top rising players in Texas 2028
Whaley is a big-body target with excellent length and catch-radius. He high-points the football with ease and uses his size to win contested catches. With the speed to stretch the field vertically, Whaley is a matchup problem for defenses and a red-zone weapon to watch as he continues to develop.
