The six and a half minutes of Holcomb’s highlights were about the most fun I have had watching a skill position player in a long time. First, Holcomb might be the state’s most dangerous kick return man. He combines speed, quick feet, and power in a way few kick returners can. He totaled over 1200 receiving yards, who knows how many punt and kick return yards, and eighteen receiving touchdowns. His body control and ability to make contested catches are also up there with the best you will see. His long striding running style eats up ground quickly, but he is agile enough to throttle down and get out of his cuts quickly. In summary – he is the complete package on the outside.

Holcomb’s combination of speed, size, and strength make him one of the top returning receivers in the state. Already a four-year starter, as a junior, he caught 82 passes – one of the top totals of the 2022 season. He can run past defensive backs but is not just a speed guy. He will break arm tackles if defenders don’t get him squared up. The junior can make people miss, but he is most effective as a one-cut-and-go guy. That trait makes him a dangerous return man too. His body control and length make him a dangerous red-zone threat.

Carter has been one of the top receiving options in the state so far this season. This Friday, he totaled his third straight performance with 130+ yards in the win over Century. He caught the ball 10 times, tallying 168 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns through the air. Holcomb is currently leading the state in receiving touchdowns with 7. Rochester Mayo is 3-0 through their first three games as they look like they could make some noise later in the season, Carter is a major reason why.
