Offensively: Carson has spent most of his time in the slot, where he operates very comfortably. I am very impressed with the willingness to add a hat in the run game. Covering up linebackers and driving defensive backs off the ball. In the passing game, Schick is a very smooth operator. All season he’s had plenty of success attacking zone coverages. He has a nice feel for zone defenders and understands how to avoid them to make himself available for his QB. He has also shown some ability to create separation against man defense, a skill I expect to see him continue to improve on. On tape you can also see he can track the football, high point and be strong at the point of attack. With that said, I believe his best attribute is his route running.
Defensively: Schick is fluid at the free safety position. He is good at roaming in the secondary and reacting to the QBs vision. Carson also does not shy away from contact. He has shown the ability to run the alley and stick his nose in the pile to make a tackle.
Carson is an interesting prospect with plenty to like. His recent clips from 7 on 7s show his ability to run clean and detailed routes. He is able to snap in and out of breaks, and explode into another gear to get downfield. He has great burst and is able to hit his top end speed quickly. He understands out to win at the top of his route and gain separation. On top of his prowess 20+ yards downfield, Carson is also a productive player in the screen game, typically putting on the moves to earn major YAC. Carson is an interesting prospect that can do a little bit of everything. Camp season could be a major player for his recruitment this spring!
So far, so good for the Forest Hills Central receiver.
Carson has had a good first two weeks of the season. Tape shows that he came into this season improved. 0:30 is a pretty crisp deep out. Solid break at the top of the route, and a nice catch near the sideline. Next, at 1:35, a nice job getting what he can on the jet sweep.
No super impressive explosive plays yet, but I honestly care more about his route running and all-around effort. Routes look good, as does effort. Little doubt that his best highlights are yet to come.
