An unranked underclassman out of Gettysburg High School who currently stands at 6’0, 160 pounds with a reported 3.5 GPA. He also participates in lacrosse and wrestling, giving him an encouraging multisport background as he continues developing physically. We currently have him represented on our site as a two-way athlete, although I want to learn considerably more about his skill set before settling on a definitive positional projection. He is a new name in our database and someone I’m interested in monitoring, particularly because there are still several unanswered questions about his current role within the Gettysburg program. He has only posted on Twitter once throughout the season, and his Hudl profile isn’t particularly easy to locate, which makes it difficult for evaluators to get a complete understanding of his development. He does have three individual game cutups available, however, giving us at least an initial opportunity to examine what he brings to the field.
One thing I would really like to understand is exactly how he is being utilized by his coaching staff. Is he currently a full time starter, working toward earning a starting role or primarily contributing within specific offensive and defensive packages? Those details would help me better understand his current standing within the program and how much responsibility he is being asked to handle. He has already recorded a reception of approximately 20 yards offensively and an interception defensively, suggesting he has the ability to contribute on both sides of the football. That is encouraging production for a player we are still learning about, and it gives me a reason to investigate his athletic versatility further. At 6’0, 160 pounds, he has an interesting developmental frame, and I’m curious to see how his physical growth influences his eventual positional fit.
After examining one of his individual game cutups, I came away particularly interested in his potential as a defensive back. He is shown aligning at outside cornerback in off coverage, where he demonstrates a willingness to participate in run support rather than simply remaining disconnected from the action. I appreciate that mentality, especially from a younger defensive back who is still developing his physicality. He is capable of coming forward, contributing as an assisting tackler and helping clean up plays when the football reaches his side of the field. I would like to see him become a little more aggressive when triggering downhill against the run, particularly in situations where he has an opportunity to attack the ball carrier before additional yardage develops. There is room for improvement in his urgency and physical approach, but he has already demonstrated that he can be a useful contributor in those situations.
His interception is another encouraging rep, coming on a tipped pass while he is operating from an off coverage alignment. He recognizes the opportunity, tracks the deflected football and secures the interception, demonstrating good awareness and hand-eye coordination. Although the initial deflection creates the opportunity, I still appreciate his ability to react and finish the play. Defensive backs need to capitalize when the football becomes available, and he does exactly that here. It is also encouraging to see him begin recording meaningful production in the stat book, particularly while we are still establishing a baseline understanding of his overall abilities. Between the interception, his willingness to support the run and his offensive reception, there are several early indicators that he could develop into a legitimate two-way contributor.
Overall, this is a prospect I want to learn more about before making any significant ranking decisions. His combination of size, academics, multisport participation and early production makes him worth tracking, but I need a better understanding of his playing time, responsibilities and overall consistency. I would encourage him to become more active on Twitter, make his Hudl profile easier to locate and continue uploading film as additional games become available. A consolidated highlight reel would also help coaches and evaluators quickly identify his best offensive and defensive reps. For now, I’m happy to have discovered another potentially interesting underclassman out of Gettysburg, and I’m looking forward to following his progress as we learn more about his role and long term positional potential.
