Brody is an active backer who has good quickness and diagnoses plays quickly. Skyridge likes to use a lot of quick dump-offs to get in space. Brody will be able to shut down that space and minimize lanes for the pass catcher. Brody will use his quickness to potentially spy on Kaneal and limit his threat on the ground. Brody is an exceptional backer and is a Power-Four talent; he’ll have a great showing.

Downs will be an important part for the defense as he’ll be in charge of attacking at the point of contact and is the most athletic backer they have, and could be asked to cover Mountain Ridge’s best playmaker and Downs is a player who does well in space and in coverage. He is light on his feet, moves well laterally and has good closing speed.

Downs is an exceptional athlete and has good size and an athletic frame. He is quick and has good lateral movements. He is versatile as he can be an on-ball attacking backer, where he can use that quickness and blend that with his play strength and closing speed. He disengages from his blocks with ease, and his active hands allow him to brush a lineman to the side and continue his pursuit. In coverage, he shows good instincts in space and doesn’t get lost. He plays his zone well and will pass off and keep the integrity of his zone intact. He’s a high football IQ player, and he is set up to have a monster season. He’ll be a Power-Four recruit.

Downs could be a huge riser with his transfer to Lehi. He is a tackling machine and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. He moves well laterally, has good strength and pursuit, and is a player who has good speed. He can claim to be the top backer in the class and a huge riser.

Downs plays the MIKE linebacker position in the Grizzlies defensive scheme.Shows initial quickness to read and react.Ability to take on blocks and use of hands to find the ball carriers in the run game.Lateral pursuit to move along the LOS.Shows burst to be a blitz rusher. Downs has shown skills for his position to be a top linebacker in the state and I expect him to improve as a junior with a experience under his belt.

Downs has great frame to add 15-20 lbs easily. He has great instincts and quick reactionary skills. Those two traits allow him to disrupt an offense’s game plan. Downs will diagnose a play quickly and attack downhill. He does a good job at getting small when attacking the line, easily slips through, and finds himself in the backfield to create chaos. Downs is a physical player who will shed his initial blocks easily and continue to chase downhill to get to the ball carrier. He takes great angles and showcases good technique to bring a ball carrier down. Downs is a versatile backer but MIKE is his natural position and a leader at a young age. He does an excellent job of not overplaying the ball carrier and doesn’t allow cutback angles. Downs has good speed, easily chases down a play, and has excellent lateral movement. Athletically, Downs is fun to watch, moves freely, and finds himself helping his defense and minimizing big plays. In coverage, Downs is light on his feet, moves side to side easily, has good instincts, and will disrupt passing lanes. Downs is a two-way player and a physical runner with good vision and will lower his pads to take on defenders and pick up tough yards. His home is on the defensive side, but Downs would make for a great short-yardage/goal-line back
