Montminy is the proto-typical interior run-stuffing defensive tackle. The Eskimos’ big man swallows up double teams and still gets off blocks – or, more accurately – powers through the blocks to affect the running game. He is an inside linebacker’s dream. Any run to his side of the line will almost certainly require a double team to move him off his spot – freeing up his linebackers to make plays. His strengths are his size and – well – his strength. Although he will not rack up the pass-rushing stats, Montminy routinely pushes guards and centers into the backfield to keep the quarterback from stepping up in the pocket.

A currently unheralded part of Esko’s upcoming crop of prospects and their 2025 class goes to 6’2, 300 lb. DT Brock Montminy. In addition to his film, size, and help in Esko’s excellent 2022 campaign, Montminy came into this past’s December PRzMN Stock-Up Showcase and absolutely tore it up at the Minnetonka Dome. No one could handle his bullrush, and he was a monster in 1-on-1s thanks to his hand usage and combination of size and strength. On tape, he also plays OG, and manhandles opponents when he gets ahold of them, but I really like his DL reps more than anything. Gets off the ball and into the backfield well for a prospect of his size, uses his hands well, just like at the Showcase, and is an athletic and physical two-way contributor for his size and age. Lots of good things going for him on film and in person and as a true DT/NG should be popular on the recruiting trail. Honestly, he’s under-ranked right now and that’s on me. Expect that name to rise up come the next update.
